Website Links and How to Get Them Part II
If you take the case where you have a one way link from a site with no page ranking, is that better than a reciprocal link with a PR 5 site? Of course not! The reciprocal link can benefit you in two ways. First, you have link to your site from a page with a ranking of five, which itself is good for you. Not only that, though. You also have a link from your site to a web page with a ranking of five, which means that it is regarded as a bit of an authority on the topic. Google will give you credit for providing useful information to your visitors.
It is wrong to believe that Google frowns on links away from your site. If you provide a link to your visitors that provide them with authoritative information, then Google will credit you for it. It is possible for such one way links from your web pages to result in a higher listing. Not just by themselves, of course, but lots of little things like that can add up to make difference to your ranking. The best strategy is to try for reciprocal links with pages of higher ranking than yours.
How do you get these links? Reciprocal links are easy to get, and the most common way is check up on sites that are in the same niche as you, but not directly competing. Contact the webmaster and request a reciprocal link. You are more liable to be successful if you have already provided a link on your site, and email the details you want in your link together with the location of their link on your website.
